Biome and ENERCON to explore Wind Turbine Noise Reducing Technology

ENERCON and clean technology company Biome Renewables sign MOU at Husum Wind fair

German renewable energy solution provider ENERCON has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Canadian cleantech innovators Biome Renewables. The agreement sparks collaboration between the two companies to qualify and integrate Biome’s novel FeatherEdge serration technology on ENERCON turbines.

“Intial tests in close cooperation between Biome and our customer Schierloh Engineering in Germany indicate that further acoustical advantages for noise sensitive sites could be possible with this technology. As partner to our customers for continuous improvements over the operating life time of ENERCON turbines, we are jointly exploring this opportunity with Biome with the aim to create added value for our customers’ assets”, said ENERCON CTO Jörg Scholle.

Ryan Church, Biome Renewables CEO and CTO, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “We are delighted in our partnership with ENERCON - a trusted industry-leading OEM delivering premium solutions. Working collaboratively with ENERCON, we can further the transition to a clean energy economy by reducing turbine noise and increasing the social and business case viability of wind power.”

Biome’s FeatherEdge will be further validated on ENERCON E-160 EP5 turbines in Germany, building upon promising independent test results conducted earlier in 2025. The test regime will incorporate comprehensive noise testing to IEC standards in multiple noise modes. The teams will focus on engineering validation to ensure the highest level of quality and integration between FeatherEdge and ENERCON turbines.

Added Ryan, “Engineered with biomimetic design principles, FeatherEdge performance lies in how it emulates the silence of the owl’s flight. Combined with innovative materials and manufacturing to ensure robust durability and performance, FeatherEdge is poised to revolutionize turbine noise solutions for the wind power industry.”
