ENERCON receives type certificates for E-175 EP5

TÜV Süd certification body presents documents during WindEurope fair in Madrid. Yield increases and further improvements announced for top model.

ENERCON has received the IECRE type certificate for its E-175 EP5 E1 turbine type. The certification body is the German Technical Inspectorate (TÜV Süd Industrie Service GmbH). The documents were presented today (21 April) at the WindEurope trade fair in Madrid. During the presentation at the ENERCON trade fair stand, the provisional IECRE type certificate was also issued for ENERCON’s new top model, the E-175 EP5 E2.

‘We are delighted to receive these certificates’, says Timo Müller, Head of ENERCON Platform Management. ‘They are important milestones in the market launch of the E-175 EP5 models – both the E1 and the higher-yield E2. Both of these turbine types play an important part in our customers’ planning. It’s therefore good news for them that we can now provide them with the official documents they need for their project approvals.’

The E-175 EP5 E1 and E-175 EP5 E2 are ENERCON’s most powerful wind turbine types, with rotor diameters of 175 metres and nominal power outputs of 6.3 and 7.0 MW respectively. The E-175 EP5 E2 is also the central pillar of the ENERCON market strategy. This turbine type is at the heart of the solution portfolio with which ENERCON supports its customers in realising their renewable energy projects. With connected solutions for the renewable energy ecosystem, the company provides answers to the complex demands of the energy system in the next phase of the energy transition and offers its customers real added value for their projects.

‘The E-175 EP5 is being very well received by our customers. It’s exactly the product that the market is looking for. It is top of the rankings of the turbine types most frequently approved in new project approvals in Germany, for example, with a significant lead over the competition,’ says Timo Müller. ENERCON is announcing further optimisations at WindEurope: ‘As of now, an increase in yield (AEP) of up to 2.8 per cent – depending on site conditions – is available for the E2’, says Timo Müller. ‘In addition, we also offer the E2 in a 6.0 MW version and with additional operating modes in order to provide our customers with the highest possible level of flexibility for their projects.’

The E-175 EP5 is being well received by customers.

On top of this, the high-yielding E2 is suitable for a wide range of site conditions all around the world, adds Benjamin Seifert, ENERCON Vice President of the Regions Business Unit: ‘Our innovative hybrid steel tower (HST) technology allows us to create various tower versions for the E2 with different hub heights, and even install the turbine in wind class IIA sites. For many onshore operators, the E2 is thus a decisive factor in maximising yield. This is one of the reasons why it is also featuring in more and more international projects. The international market launch is progressing very well. We have already concluded supply agreements for the E2 for Germany, Turkey, Canaca, the Netherlands, Austria, Lithuania and Portugal.’
