Key document for the approval of customer projects involving ENERCON’s flagship model and this HST tower variant
ENERCON has successfully completed the certification of its new Hybrid Steel Tower (HST) with a hub height of 162 meters for the E-175 EP5. At the Husum Wind trade fair (ongoing until September 19), TÜV Süd, acting as the certifier, officially handed over the certificate German Type Approval today.
The DIBt certificate is valid for the E-175 EP5 E1 and E-175 EP5 E2 on the HST-162. It is a key document for the approval of customer projects involving ENERCON’s flagship model and this HST tower variant. The tower developments are also applicable to international markets. The IECRE Design Evaluation Conformity Statement will be issued shortly.
“The awarding of the type approval by TÜV Süd marks another important milestone in the rollout of our high HST towers,” says ENERCON EP5 Product Manager Timo Müller. “Due to the significant advantages of this steel tower technology, we will continue to expand our HST portfolio.”
Respectively, additional HST variants are already under development or undergoing certification. The completion of DIBt certification for the HST-175 (E-175 EP5 E2) and the HST-166 (E-160 EP5 E3 R1) is planned for the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Hub heights of 112 m and 132 m are also part of the portfolio for both the E-175 EP5 E1 and E-175 EP5 E2 turbines.
The HST tower is a hybrid steel tower technology developed by ENERCON. It combines segments of the Modular Steel Tower (MST), which consist of bent steel sheets bolted together, with segments of a Tubular Steel Tower (ST).
In addition to advantages in logistics and installation—components are easy to transport and benefit from simplified installation concepts—further benefits in terms of sustainability may emerge in the medium term: HST towers can be manufactured using CO₂-reduced steel, up to CO₂-neutral steel.
