Optional yield increase enables significant added value from EP3 wind farms for operators
With a new solution offering, ENERCON enables operators of wind farms equipped with E-138 EP3 E3 turbines to achieve significant yield increases. Launched at WindEnergy Hamburg (still running until 25 September), performance optimisation will now also be available for the E-138 EP3 E3 as part of the ‘Yield+’ programme. Under this name, ENERCON offers yield-enhancement solutions in its solution portfolio for both new and existing turbines.
Depending on the specific site conditions, the Yield+ option now available for the E-138 EP3 E3 can increase Annual Energy Production (AEP) by approximately 2 %. This figure is based on an average wind speed of 7.0 m/s at hub height.
The additional energy yield is achieved through site-specific adjustments to the turbine control system. By increasing rotor speed, the nominal power output of the E-138 EP3 E3 can be increased from 4.26 MW to 4.5 MW.
No modifications to the wind turbine hardware are required to achieve this yield optimisation. The design lifetime of 25 years for the E-138 EP3 E3 also remains unchanged.
Before implementing the new operating mode, operators should assess, among other factors, whether sufficient capacity is available at the point of common coupling and how the reduced reactive power provision may affect site operation. The ENERCON Sales & After Sales teams are available to provide clarification on these matters and detailed information regarding the availability of this mode for specific turbine configurations.
The option provides EP3 operators with greater flexibility, further reductions in the levelised cost of energy (LCOE), and thus tangible added value for their projects. ‘As a solutions provider for the renewable energy ecosystem, our aim is to increase the profitability and value of wind energy projects throughout their entire lifecycle’, says Fatemeh Akhtarirad, Head of Value Offerings at ENERCON Service Product Management. ‘We are therefore developing solutions for the continuous optimisation of turbine operation across the entire project lifecycle, enabling our customers to maximise energy yield.’
