ENERCON is ready to contribute to energy transition in South Korea

As such, ENERCON has recently signed a contract with BS Energy for 9 × E-160 EP5 E3 to be installed in 2025 and commissioned in 2026. ENERCON CCO Ulrich Schulze Südhoff, CFO Dr Michael Jaxy and APAC Regional Head Steffen Brauns took part in the contract signing on 11 December 2023 in South Korea on behalf of ENERCON.

ENERCON has a short history in South Korea, with the first project taking off in 2016. ENERCON has since quickly gained a reputation in the South Korean market, with the launch of the EP3 and EP5 platforms domestically, as a strong competitive solution provider.

The Asian market is booming and offers strong growth prospects for quality turbines from ENERCON. ‘We are here to listen to our customers and to invest in the market, but in particular where our customers see the need. Through strategic partnership, we can best utilise the resources we have available to our customers’ benefit and create a sustainable future,’ ENERCON CCO Ulrich Schulze Südhoff says.

The high-level visit from the management board shows to all our customers in South Korea that ENERCON is here to support their projects and willing to make a major contribution to the South Korean energy transition, as well as demonstrate support to the local team.

‘With the first E-160 EP5 E3 project under construction in South Korea, we are seeing increasing demand for this turbine type. The rotor size and generator output are a perfect fit for South Korean projects,’ says Steffen Brauns, ENERCON Regional Head for APAC.

South Korea has set a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40 per cent by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. The South Korean government has actively supported the growth of the wind energy sector through various policies, incentives, and regulatory frameworks, providing financial incentives and market mechanisms to promote renewable energy deployment locally.
